Today we report our interview with Mr. Tami Yamamoto who acts as both Yosuke and Giuseppe in the play, "Prayer of Mother Mary - A Miracle of Nagasaki -".

What was your thought to play Yosuke and Giuseppe in the play?

I strongly paid attention to how I could lead the lives of them individually as lively as possible, because the lives of the two different persons across the two eras should be acted by myself in the single play. Even though the characters of both are different from each other, actually there is a common part of both of them. That is the chivalrous spirit and graciousness a man has, which would be described as "I want to protect my loved one." It might be simple, however I would like to express "masculinity" that is required for men in any era.

Do you have any difficult parts or scenes in playing it?

When I play Giuseppe in the play, it has been difficult for me how I can make the audience feel his preparedness. I imagine how he was feeling in his preparedness when he, as a padre (a Father), came to Nagasaki under the prohibition of Christianity, in a desperate. I studied the background of the era and the history at that time through various documents and books, and ruminate my imagination at each scene. As for the devising scene for Yosuke in the play, it would be, for example, the scene which Yosuke is almost dragged into a river by invisible entities. I would like to perform the role expressing the reality by strengthening my imagination, so I practiced and practiced many times.

There is a scene that Yosuke who doesn't believe in God prays at the end. What do you think about it?

What I feel about this scene when I played it for the first time is that "It is not a logical matter in the end." Why does Yosuke who has no faith in God intently pray at the end? When he as a human being is struck to think of love from the bottom of his heart, he wakes up to the existence of God, which got us thinking that it cannot be explained by the theory.

Could you let us hear about the thing you are always thinking when you perform in this play?

I'm performing in this play in resonance with the message of love and peace through this play. That is the "thought" which the founder, Ms. Inamori would like to convey. I believe other actors and actresses are performing this play out of the same thought. This play is not composed of the performance of one actor or one actress, but each of the casts is a piece of a picture in which he/she is leading the life across the era, and makes a big picture of this play like a jigsaw puzzle. When you look at the individual piece of the picture, we believe the message of IAPG will surely be conveyed to your hearts. We are going to the stage of this play putting such a wish.

Message from the IAPG Founder, Noriko Inamori

Since my childhood, I have been expecting it would become a peaceful world eventually. It is because Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammad were not wrong, and they seemed to be very attractive for me. Then why those who have faith in them cannot be in peace and happiness? If those people have the mind that they admit only their own religion, I think God will feel sad.
