Today we would like to present an interview to Ms. Mana Motohara who is one of the members of dance unit "AMATERASU ". She is participating in a new performance, Hawaiian hula from the year 2016.

Could you explain why your dance unit started Hawaiian hula?

In the first song of the musical play, "To Earth Children", there is a very beautiful song named "On This Beautiful Planet". The part of this song is a performance which a group of women perform hula dance over tender harmony of mixed chorus.

When you hear the word "hula dance", you might imagine the brilliant dancing in sightseeing places. However, actually the ancient Hawaiian danced hula by means of praying to God. Thus we had an idea to express by hula dance the concept of "Prayer of love and gratitude to Earth" in which the song "On The Beautiful Planet" originally has it. Because hula dance is not only a dance, but also a "prayer" itself.

What would you like to convey through the song "One Beautiful Planet"?

A beautiful sunset dyes the color of mountains. Light of the sun is shining from the sky and the surface of lakes is twinkling. The lyrics of this song contain a lot of phrases that remind us "A beautiful planet, the Earth". We forget the existence of such beautiful scenery and our gratitude to the Earth in our busy lives, don't we? Saying nothing, earth is looking over us and fostering us warmly. We would like to convey our gratitude to this Earth through the tender choir and hula dance.

What are you thinking during your performance of hula dance?

When I dance hula, I have a feeling that I become integrated with nature, and my gratitude to the fact that I am kept alive by blessings of nature comes out. Not only admiring nature, but also connecting with earth through hula dance, I am in the feeling of a mother who is fostering all the lives. I believe that the wish of Mother Earth would be "I wish all the lives on this planet, the Earth become happy." Such feeling of Mother Earth reminds me that we are one big family born in this beautiful planet, the Earth, although we have differences of nations, human races and ways of thinking. We would like to accept various differences with each other, and admire each other, and giving the peaceful Earth to the next generation.

Message from the IAPG Founder, Noriko Inamori

Though each one is ordinary, I would like to value the thoughts each one is loving the earth and wants to leave the better future of the earth to the children. Someone might say "It is an empty dream." But we must not give up the dream there is a chance.
